THE LOOKOUT

Swaying slightly
swerving slowly sideways
in the sky (so bright it’s white)
narrow path ‘tween buildings
shimmering white seagull
— lonely child’s cry
echoes of the sea
in its song…
an anchor
for the sad slightly small
woman sitting in the window
of the second floor
room room roominghouse
— the sight of the gull saving,
sensitive sanity retained…
She didn’t like the city one bit.
